Election 2025: RACS’s roadmap for reform

The RACS Roadmap for Refugee Policy Reform is a set of six principles developed in response to the need for change in Australia’s cruel and unjust asylum regime. We hope to see these principles enforced by the next parliament, so that we can move towards justice and dignity for and with refugees.

The principles are:

  1. Create a permanent pathway for all

  2. Abolish cruel detention and removal policies

  3. Ensure procedural safeguards throughout the asylum process

  4. Provide access to a safety net for people seeking asylum

  5. Recognise family unity as an essential part of refugee settlement

  6. Improve Australia’s response to humanitarian crises
